The Baptist Home of Winnebago was established in the mid 1930's when the local Baptist Church purchased the building from Parker College, when the college sadly closed its doors. There were actually a few residents who went to the college in this building, then came back 60 years later for nursing care!
The home was an independant enterprise for many years until the larger Baptist group became interested in providing Long Term Care as an arm of the church, as was happening in Winnebago. Soon the Baptist Home in Winnebago became the flagship facility for the American Baptist Homes of the Midwest.
In the early 1990's, the staff, church representatives, and community participants worked with this association to look at how the Winnebago facility would serve the community in the future. As an outcome of these discussions, and with a generous donation from Dudley and Evelyn Krause of Winnebago, an Assisted Living Wing, Independent Apartments, and Community Center were added to enhance the service offerings for Winnebago residents. To reflect the beauty of the surroundings, the name became Parker Oaks.
In 2006, Parker Oaks was purchased by Jim and Kathy Birchem, with a name change to Parker Oaks Communities, Inc. ElderCare of Minnesota continued to provide Nursing Home and Assisted Living services including veterans and memory care throughout the years. In March of 2015, the entire community was converted to Assisted Living and remains a vibrant support for those who reside within its historic care.
